Adulthood and lifelong education: empowerment and planning

Abstract

The complexity of contemporary western society in an disoriented globalised world raises crucial issues for debate and epistemological considerations regarding adulthood and lifelong education. The author proposes a series of reflections on the concept of empowerment as an indispensable tool for the active emancipation of people, taking on responsibility oneself, motivation, autonomy, the development of abilities for decision making and planning, and the affirmation of a concept of social citizenship and hopefully high standard of life for everyone.
