This article attempts to compare private remembrances of childhood written by Bianca Pitzorno in her well-known novel Ascolta il mio cuore and the analysis of archival documents of the school she attended in Sassari. In a broad sense, this case study indicates, the complex problems that historians have to face when they try to use as a source the subjective memory of the pupils, quantitative and objective data and adult's expository writing of events lived in the past.
