Virtual and Real: a proposal for the creation of an integrated museum

Abstract

In spite of the fact that many Italian museums have a reference web site, our analysis showed that use of the Web and its specific characteristics is totally marginal. The web site becomes an extension of the museum only in rare cases and, even then, becomes a simple showcase that offers practical information. This paper presents a more complex way to use the site, a way that can give a preview of what can be seen in the museum and expand and consolidate the knowledge obtained in the visit of the real museum.
